How to know if you qualify for New York Medicaid

Getting access to Medicaid can change your life if you need it and do not otherwise have access to insurance coverage.  As this is the nature of the world around us it is always important to make sure that you have exhausted all of your options to have coverage.  When you live in New York there are a few things you must do to qualify for Medicaid coverage.

  1. You have high medical bills.  When you have high medical bills that you are having a hard time paying for you can get help from Medicaid.  To find out what “high” is in terms of medical bills just call your local social security office.
  2. You receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).  When you receive income from the government to help you live a normal daily life you can also get coverage from Medicaid.  This is to help you live your life and cover whatever type of medical expenses that you may have.
  3. You meet certain financial requirements.  Again, there is some ambiguity with this as the social security or Medicaid office must handle this on a case-by-case basis.  Contact your local social security office to find out more.
