What Can’t You Do During the Medicare Advantage Special Enrollment Period?

You know that you can make some changes to your Medicare Advantage
Plan from January 1st to February 14th, but what changes are not
allowed? Here is a look at a few things that you cannot do during
this time:

1. You cannot switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage
Plan, you can however, do the opposite. From Medicare Advantage to
Original Medicare is allowed in case you think Medicare Advantage was
a mistake.

2. You also cannot switch from one Medicare Advantage Plan to another
as this would cause havoc if allowed. Be sure your issue is with
Medicare Advantage and not with Medicare as a whole as this will not
help.

3. You cannot switch from one Medicare Prescription Drug Plan to
another during this period either. You can, however, add a
prescription drug plan if you switch from Medicare Advantage to
Original Medicare during this period.

4. It is also not allowed to join, switch or drop a Medicare Medical
Savings Account Plan during this time. While it may be something that
you want or need you have to accept that it is not going to happen.
