North Carolina Medicaid: A Look at North Carolina Medicaid Programs and the Application

It is a fact that having good health is important for everyone. Whether you are rich or you are poor, having good health for both you and your family is very important. However, if you can't pay for your medical bills, how will you be able to ensure you and your family's health? Surely you can't stop illnesses from happening and you definitely cannot predict what's in store for you and your family in the future.

Because of this, more and more people are now enrolling in a state and federal government program called the Medicaid.

First of all, Medicaid can make it possible for you get the same quality health care in order for you and your family to get healthy and stay that way.

Medicaid is run mostly by the state government. However, the federal government also provides assistance. This joint heath insurance program provided by the state and federal government can provide you with the financial help you need in order to let you afford high quality health care.

However, you have to remember that Medicaid is only available for individuals and families who are in the low income level. There are certain requirements that you have to meet in order for you and your family to fit in this one of a kind health program.

You also need to understand that the Medicaid program is very different from Medicare. In Medicare, it is mainly provided by the federal government and is exclusively for senior citizens and individuals with disabilities before they reach the age of 65. In Medicaid, this health program is mainly funded by the state government and also receives assistance from the federal government. The Medicaid eligibility rules and requirements also differ from state to state.

In North Carolina, about 36% who are enrolled are children living with low income families. The rest of the people who are enrolled in Medicaid are low income individuals, the elderly, blind, disabled, and pregnant women. Your income is also an important factor when it comes to the eligibility rules in Medicaid in North Carolina. These income and resources requirements should be met in order for you to become eligible for Medicaid. Normally, individuals and families included in the low income levels are the ones who are eligible for Medicaid.

Here are the groups and the basic eligibility requirements for Medicaid in North Carolina:

For the aged, the beneficiary will obtain full Medicaid coverage. He or she should be at least 65 years of age or older, and the resources of the spouse will also be counted on the total household income for eligibility if they live together. The income limit for the aged is 100% poverty, an income of $851 a month if living alone, and $1,141 a month if still living with the spouse.

For the blind, full Medicaid coverage is included provided that they are blind by social security standards. The income of their spouse and their resources will also be counted. The income eligibility requirement is the same for the blind is the same for the aged group.

Other people who are qualified for Medicaid are low income families, pregnant women and children.

These are the things you have to remember about North Carolina Medicaid. By knowing all about the laws and eligibility rules for Medicaid in the state of North Carolina, you will be able to enroll without any problems at all.

I am in dire need of a new wheelchair. I got this one about four years ago and have really used it. It is falling apart on me. My husband and my son have been doing repairs on this one for so long there is nothing else they can do to it. I have tried to get one through Alliance Medical in Albemarle, NC where I got this one but with no luck. I understand medicaid will only pay for one after so long, but what do you do if you need one before then. I am overweight and can’t walk and if this one continues to fall apart I don’t know what I’m going to do. I really, really need one as soon as possible. My doctor gave me a prescription to get one but it didn’t do any good. Please help me.

My mom has cancer(lung and brain) she now needs 24hr care and we don’t want her in a rest home. She lives alone and recieves SSI and a pension from her job that she worked for over 25yrs. With that income she is over the limit by 328.00 and does not qualify per NC standards. Her bills does not allow her to hire a fulltime or partime care partner. Is there any way she can qualify for Medicaid? Thanks
Mom is still able to “ambulate”

Mother has been in a skilled nursing facility for 4 years. She is 94 (95 in January). She cannot walk, cannot dress herself, cannot feed herself, is incontinent, and has dementia. In January, her long term care insurance runs out. I don’t know how we’ll (myself and sister) pay for her care. I was hoping to apply for medicaid to make up the cost difference after her SS and post office pension are paid. I can’t seem to find the information I need to apply for aid. Should I hire an attorney or is there a good web site where I can get information that isn’t bogged down with government speak?
